2 ratings

Food is medicine. It helps us heal each other.

This hand-drawn black and white zine by Rena Yehuda Newman contains eleven well-loved recipes to make for yourself or your friends when someone's under the weather. Every tried-and-true recipe is simple, easy, cheap, and delicious. Here you'll find soups (including a kick-ass garlic lemon broth), baked goods, drinks, salads, and even microwave a garlic-roasting technique. Each page contains an illustrated recipe and short note from the author about its origins and meaning.

In a COVID-addled world, more people are getting more sick more often. As global fascism rises, we need to practice regular, reliable ways to take care of one another. As a trans person, Rena Yehuda is always in community with folks recovering from surgeries or experiencing flare-ups for chronic conditions--which is to say, plenty of opportunities to make soup. This zine was born out of Rena Yehuda's love for cooking, but also a love for their people.

Cooking for someone who's sick is an act of care: this zine is not just a cookbook but a toolkit for connection.
